On Saturday night from Las Vegas, Nevada, Amir Khan lost for the second time in a row. Khan was originally scheduled to face Lamont Peterson on May 19 in a rematch of their Dec. 10 bout in which Peterson took a 12-round split decision to win Khan’s WBA and IBF titles. Danny Garcia was the re-placement after Peterson tested positive for a banned substance.
Khan came out aggressive in the opener, catching Garcia with a stinging right and opening a small cut above his eye. By the third round Garcia landed an over right hand that landed right on Khan’s neck that sent him swirling to the canvas. Khan beat the count with seconds to end the round.
At the start of the fourth, the Philly fighter unleashed a storm of power punches, knocking Khan down twice. Khan got back to his feet each time, showing a big heart but the referee, Kenny Bayless, saw enough and waived it off at 2:28 of the round.
“He caught me,” said the 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist after the bout. “I was a little surprised the ref stopped it. I thought he was going to let it continue. My mind was clear and I thought my legs were okay but I respect the judges, the refs and the commission for their decision. Who knows? Maybe they made the right call.”
Despite his loss to Garcia, Khan won me over as a fan. I was never really high on Khan however over time from him calling out Bradley and offering him such a deal, to his competition over the last two years he’s proven he wants the best and most importantly he has heart. Can’t ask more of any fighter, I think Khan will be back he just has to learn he can’t get caught in wild slugfests and take more advantage of his speed and technical skills.
Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz in a retirement match!!!! lol
Garcia is a shot-in-the-arm for boxing, a real throw back working class fighter. Bad idea for any fighter near his weight to look past this man. Terrific performance, can’t wait to see him again.
Where does he go from here??
Back over here to Britain??
He’s been exposed now I think,
Think he should come back and give Kell brook a chance to step up, kell will knock him out and so would mathew hatton, just my opinion,
