The Argentinean cutman Miguel Diaz who was mentioned to be the next trainer for the WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, suffered the same fate as Evangelista Cotto and was also cut from the Puerto Rican’s team, this according to El Vocero de Puerto Rico.
Diaz, who is well trusted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank, was looking forward in uniting with the team in Tampa, FL, for the remainder of Cotto’s training for his June 13th bout against the IBF champion Joshua Clottey.
Diaz has been in the corner of Cotto for numerous of his past fights including his only loss on his ledger at the hands of Antonio Margarito where he suffered many cuts.
“Diaz will not be in Tampa or in Cotto’s corner. He will no longer be part of the team. His place as cutman will be taken over, at least for this fight, by a fellow Puerto Rican,” an uncredited source close to Top Rank and Cotto stated.
