Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto stated earlier this week when he arrived to Puerto Rico after his defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao, that he did not know what his future held as far as his professional boxing career.
Pacquiao handed Cotto his second career loss and stripped him of his WBO welterweight title when refree Kenny Bayless stopped the massacre at :55 mark of the 12th round.
“I don’t know what we are going to do. We need to sit down with Top Rank and we are going to rest,” Cotto declared at the International airport of San Juan.
He did admit that he is thinking of future opponents such as Floyd Mayweather Jr as well as rematches against Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley.
Cotto also insisted that he will keep in his corner his trainer Jose Santiago, who has been the chief second since his bout against Joshua Clottey which Cotto won via a split decision.
Santiago was named his trainer after Cotto and his uncle Evangelista Cotto had a run-in which resulted in civil charges being brought up by both.
“Why should I get rid of him?, everything is fine. We will keep the same team but I would have done my training different,” Cotto, 29, stated.
“Many factors didn’t work and they didn’t come out as we trained them,” Cotto added. “Pacquiao was what we expected of him, quick and strong.”
miguel cotto is a good fighter but he needs a new corner he needs a real trainer not a mickey mouse type of trainer; the last fight he was a disgrase to our country ,we pay top dollars to see him figth he is making enough money to hire a good trainer then do so i’m tire to see figthers like him to cash in and then forget about us the fans if he doesnt care the retire and stop taking our money …
That’s the fighting spirit. Cotto is still young. There are still many good things that lie ahead for him.
GOOD LUCK, MIKE. You were such a gentleman in the face of defeat. The Filipinos will not forget that. I pray that someday you will pay homage to the land of Filipinos. After all, Puerto Ricans and the Filipinos share some good memories in history.
IF I am not mistaken, former Miss Universe DAYANARA TORRES (1994?) was a Puerto Rican. She used to be a long time resident of the Philippines, became a DANCING QUEEN on television, and almost became the wife of our very own handsome fine actor AGA MULACH.
I am very sad that Cotto is staying with his trainer Jose Santiago.
He needs to have someone that will really help him train better because he was backing up to Manny and that should not have even happened.
He was suppose to be the stronger fighter puncher etc of the two in this one and it didn’t happened. He needs to work with someone that will push him to the limit in many routines that he doesn’t like doing because it will make him a better fighter especially mentally and physically. I was upset to see him lose. Yet Miguel Cotto show a BIG Heart in defeat though never wanting to give up in any fight A true Champion at heart.
I would like to see him fight again after he gets rest and a nice vacation at that. To many WARS! and then decide what he can do to better his fighting skills. He needs Emanuel Steward someone different that he knows that are great trainers of Champions that would help me.
Push him differently for the best real Miguel Cotto in the future to show up!
