Guadalupe “Lupe” Pintor retired from boxing in 1995 with a record of 56 wins against 14 losses, two draws and 42KOs.
The veteran Aztec warrior understands that besides the purses and belts that he acquired during his long career, the most important gift was his health, both mentally and physically.
Because of that, he makes a recommendation to Miguel Cotto, who this Saturday will face the Filipino 
superstar Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, NV.
“I think that Miguel Cotto should retire,” Pintor stated during a special event honoring Wilfredo Gomez last week.
“Cotto has nothing else to prove in boxing,” the former bantamweight and super bantamweight champion stated.
Although Pintor praised the fighter from Caguas, he also mentioned that his style leaves him open to uneccessary punishment.
“After he fought with (Antonio) Margarito, he shouldn’t continue to fight,” Pintor added about Cotto’s first loss. “Cotto received too many punches in that fight, the ones that can really damage a fighter.”
Pintor believes that was the best time for Cotto to say good by to the squared circle.
“After that fight, he should have retired,” Pintor said.
“I think it is fine for him to fight with Pacquiao but I don’t think he is going to win,” Pintor expressed. “He should retire so that he can enjoy life, healthy which is very important.”
some people just dont get it cotto obviously obtained perminent damage to the head he is only going to get worse he should retire and as for margarito he shouldnt be permited to fight again
yo is this guy 4real??? this guy is a bum he has been against cotto from the get go.. cotto is a great fighter with one ugly lost witch is his only lost (questionable because of margaCHETO) but he says cotto should retire?? lololol. what a !@#$$ bummm. why doesnt he say margacheto should retire.. this is the type of things that mess up the sport of boxing and its called hating lol cotto is still the man and pinto should never be allowed to speak his mind ever again……LETS GO COTTO
yea tijuana im with you on that, I doubt cotto is going to retire any time soon. i doubt it even more if he wins. If anyone had more than one fight like the one he had with margarito they would probably need to retire. Getting hit in the head with plaster for 11rds will make anyone retire early. only time will tell if that fight did real damage to the guy. Margarito is a disgrace and should never be alowed to step in to the ring again. He could of killed cotto.
This is nonsense, if he had been in more fights like the Margarito I would agree, but he is only 29, before the Margarito fight he has never been in that situation before, so I don’t agree at all with that, lets wait and see what happens with Pacquiao, but I doubt he will retire anytime soon.
