Sergio Diaz, manager of former champion Antonio Margarito, was quoted as saying “a rematch with Miguel Cotto will happen if the right money is on the table.”
Cotto suffered his lone career loss to Margarito last July. Margarito had his license revoked in February by the California State Athletic commission after inserts with a plaster-like substance were discovered in his hand wraps 30 minutes prior to the bout with Shane Mosley on January 24.
Diaz says his team is making moves to get Margarito’s license back. Margarito will be able to apply for a new license in January and is expected to return in March.
A few weeks ago Miguel Cotto told the Puerto Rican press that Margarito will never make another penny off him. Diaz believes it can still happen.
“We’re taking steps to getting our license back. I know Cotto says Antonio won’t make another penny off him, but if he’s offered a lot of pennies to take the fight, I think he will,” Diaz told The Los Angeles Times.
Though Miguel Cotto is refusing a rematch, his promoter Bob Arum, who promotes both Cotto and Margarito, told the paper that a rematch is something that all the fans want to see.
“The fight everyone would want to see is a Cotto-Margarito rematch,” Arum said.

Margarito you disgraced Mexico by loading up your hands before the Mosley fight. I hope Cotto doesn’t give this clown a rematch. Margarito should not be allowed back in the ring.
