Cintron dives out of ring, Williams wins decision

What a waste! No doubt we all hope Kermit Cintron is ok and continues to fight on a championship level but what a lousy way to end a fight. If you missed it, Saturday’s Junior middleweight fight between Paul Williams (39-1,27 KO’s) and Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, ended when both guys got tangled in the ring in the 4th and Cintron went flying out of the ring and into the crowd.

It was very hard to see what was going on at ringside but as soon as the stretcher came out a collective groan emerged from the crowd as you knew this one was over before it began.

There was never a good round or even more than a couple of good shots thrown. I had Williams up 2-1 and he was getting some work done in round 4 before the mishap.

Both men felt things out for the first and Williams finally settled into picking his shots which is a little unusual for such a busy fighter. The outcome was in doubt before the accident and the weird part was when the scores were read.

How can you score a bout after 3 and some change of rounds and especially when a fighter is injured and unable to continue? Either way, it seems doubtful that Williams will get any credit or fan or media push to fight a big name.

The fault is not his but a fight like this begs a rematch and hopefully a better conclusion.

After the fight, Cintron’s promoter Lou DiBella said “He hit his head. I think that the doctor saw that he hit his head and that he had to send him to the hospital. Kermit wanted to fight. I don’t understand how this is a technical decision when the fight did not go four full rounds. It’s a California law, but it is a dumb law. How can you say who can win a three and a half round fight? If that is the case, in my opinion, my guy won the fight. Paul never hurt him. He (Kermit) hurt Paul.”

I can see the future and it is Williams-Cintron II.

  1. Both ‘love boxing’ and ‘hands of steel’ make good points. I agree he should fight some of the big boys at some point in a higher weight class. Nobody at welterweight wants to fight this guy. He’s not unbeatable though. Tommy Hearns eventually went up in weight and fought at cruiserweight late in his career. Roy Jones Jr did the same thing. As did James Toney.

  2. So that fighters will fight in their real weight class, the weight-in should be held like it was when my boys were fighting, 10:00 AM, the morning of the fight.

  3. Hey I never said I liked they guy..yeah he’s way too big I agree and so is that Cheater from Tijuana…they do need to move up to a higher weight class…you know how you mentioned that williams said that nobody wanted to fight him Is funny because he refused to fight Joshua Clottey when given the chance

  4. this guy is 6.3. He will never get a mega fight because noone is dumb or obligated to fight
    6.3 fighter at welterweight division
He is a coward and he knows it .
I guess he can make lightweight .power to him
give me a break man .William is a joke .he is crying out loud ” nobody want to fight me ” of course you moron because you’re 6.3 and you opponents are 5.3 ,5,9, 5.4 or 5.8 .it doesn’t take a smart man to figure this out .

  5. Wasn’t Tommy Hearns a 6′ 1″ welterweight?…I don’t see Williams as a coward..if the guy can make 147 power to him

  6. This fight from the get go is a travesty .I really dislike Williams because he is a coward who is reluctant to move up to where he belongs .he is 6.3 ft and want people to believe that he is the most fearful guy in the welterweight division .nobody at the welterweighy will fight a guy who’s 6.3 .just imagin pacman ,mosely or floyd fighting this idiot .He keeps on starving himself
to stay at 147 .stop being a coward a start eating and move up to middle ,cruise weight ,or heavyweight where actually he belong to fight ,
he is picking on guys that are smaller than him
and trying to be a legend based on his cowardness .This guy thinks that people have no idea about what he is doing dude you are like a light pole it’s obvious you idiot .
I would never call anyone a coward for refusing to fight Williams instead call williams a coward for not fighting some his size and flexing his muscles on guys that are shorter than him .
move up in weight division and stop starving yourself to make victory becuase you might die
