SEEING IS BELIEVING
They say “Pictures Don’t Lie.” And that is especially true about the photos in this release of an obviously slimmed down and solid Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola, who is on target to enter the Home Depot Center boxing ring on Saturday night, May 14 in Carson, CA at his lowest weight in four years.
“Right now I’m training very hard,” said the former #1-ranked world contender about his upcoming 10-round fight with Nagy Aguilera (16-5, 11 KOs) as the co-featured bout underneath the Super Six World Boxing Classic semi-final contest between WBA Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham. “I’m looking more to showing than talking; at least until after the fight,” said the normally ‘sound bite’ machine who ballooned up to a career high of 263 pounds in 2009.
The “re-dedication of Arreola” started when he and his longtime trainer Henry Ramirez trekked down to the Houston, TX training center run by Ronnie Shields to prepare for an ESPN2 main event on January 28, 2011. For the first time in eight fights, Arreola came in under 250-pounds for that bout.
And now Arreola is back in Riverside hard at work with Ramirez for his upcoming bout.
So what was Arreola’s motivation for re-dedicating himself?
“I hate to lose,” he said.
@jonny- boy ,you got a point there .
@Boxingisart, I see your point I’m not praising him here but I think he is finally taking his job seriously and he is at an age where he can still do great things. Some fighters never achieve there full potential and thats a choice they make by themselves by lack of discipline which I’d be the first to say he’s lacked since I’ve seen this guy. He deserves a wee bit of a respect for recognizing he had a problem and would get no where if he didn’t get serious about turning himself around and it appears he is doing so. Now it’s a matter of whether he sticks to it or it’s just another showing of wasted potential due to immaturity. Believe me I’ve wanted to write this guy off but always thought if he controlled his weight would be the first step in the right direction now its about making adjustments in the ring where he also needs help and Shields is a solid trainer to help him do so.
good job chris… good luck
@ jonny boy ,with all the respect .he is not taking his job seriously .His profession is boxing ,therefore,he needs to be on top of business and the weight issue should not be an issue at all .it is tantamount to mechanic without tools .I am not going congratulate a boxer for being in shape or trying to loose weight. The conventional wisdom is that boxers should be in good shape .The guy lacks discipline and it is obviously shown by his physique .A surgeon with tremulous hands it not allowed to execute surgeries and a boxer with excess weight should be in the ring .bro please be more pragmatic .This is sport and fans at this juncture of this era pay $$$$$$$to have the privilege to watch boxing bout .Do you think people are going to pay to see a guy who lacks determination and hunger to show the world that he belongs in the ring with eliteb fighters.
I am not being crude or crass .I am just being honest and practical .
I still think that he is an okay fightet but for sure not elite one .
@boxingisart, It’s a big deal for a boxer who has struggled with his weight but has great potential if he controlled it which he was not doing. Now that he is finally caring for his body in a proper manner it will only help him. If he can become a world title challenger with no discipline as he did, then it’s pretty hard to imagine what he can do when he is rededicated, training properly and taking better care of his body. Nobody is saying alright now he can beat either Klitz bro but a lot of people (myself included) think he needed to drop some pounds and get serious which it’s obvious he is doing you don’t lose that kind of weight by sitting around. I just want to see the progress he’s making and take it one fight at a time.
Good job Arreola!
He looks good, now lets see if he can keep himself in shape and move himself back into contention!!
The guy still out of shape .I really wonder what kind of training technich he follows .what kind of food does he eat and what happened to his muscles ?!
Good luck buddy
Is it a big deal for a boxer to lose weight and get in shape instead of being a fat ball .Are we suppose to exalt him for loosing some pounds and stop eating Tacos .He is.not even in good shape because he seemed that he lost all his muscles .
Get real people
Now this is the Arreola I been wanting to see, in shape and actually dedicating himself 100% to his training he can be scary for any Heavyweight out there when he’s in great shape. Keep up the good work and i’m glad they are going to televise his fight because I want to see the progress he’s making.
