This time unbeaten “Son of the Legend” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (38-0-1, 29 KOs) left no doubt as he won a clear ten round unanimous decision over Matt Vanda (39-8, 22 KOs) in a middleweight bout on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Junior never let Vanda get untracked as he methodically built up a lead and went on to a solid 99-91, 97-93, 98-92 win.
IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire (20-1, 13 KOs) defended his belt via sixth round TKO over mandatory challenger Moruti Mthalane (22-2, 15 KOs). The bout was stopped by referee Joe Cortez at 1:31 of round six due to a cut inside Mthalane’s left eyelid, which was caused by a punch.
WBC interim super flyweight champion Jorge Arce (51-4-1, 38 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over ex-WBO champ Isidro Garcia (25-6-2, 8 KOs). An Arce body shot forced Garcia to take a knee in the fourth and referee Tony Weeks waved it off moments later after Arce’s brutal follow up barrage.
