  1. Erik has the right to comeback and he has proven it in his last fight. With M.A. Barerra? Nah, maybe it’s better for him not to.

  2. @ JESUS Yes, I also heard Barrera was comimg back on this card. Now… if we consider that Erik Morales just lauched his comeback and now Barrera…. wouldn’t you think that they are setting us up for a…. hmmm… I’m sure you get the picture. It’s a ‘natural”… right?

I don’t believe either one really has a financial needs to continue fighting but… of course money has something to do with it but not entirely. It’s also a “pride thang” and/or the only place they feel ‘at home’ is IN THE RING!

  3. I hope Chavez doesn’t waste Freddie Roach’s time. Freddie has no time for slackers. I’m actually looking forward to this fight with Duddy. The only way this would be PPV is if this is an undercard fight.

I agree with the fact that sports stars rent (not lend) their names for promotional purposes. I didn’t mean to imply anything else by it.

  4. TIAJUANA Yes it does. I am not ashamed to say that I’m looking forward to this fight and my boys and son in law will pay to see this one for/with their Dad…. ME!! Others might not ppv or might not admit that they will but, without a doubt, their interest and attention will be focused on this fight, whether they admit it or not.

  5. TIAJUANA Well, although I will be the first to admit that Roach is an excellent trainer and strategist, I don’t expect a world of difference from Chavez Jr in this fight nor over a long period of time. Now, what we actually might well see is how MENTALLY sound the young Chavez truly is or…. isn’t.

I believe these two fighters are basically on the same level. They might even face off more than once. One thing that can be said about both is that although they are obviously not top talent they have been marketed quite well and have made more, MUCH MORE, than most true top talent of thier division. Expect this fight to be hyped up to the max and… the interest level of this encounter will be quite high, regardless of their fistic limitations.

  6. Turns out Freddie Roach is going to train Chavez Jr. for this fight, now I really want to see what is Jr. capable of with a good trainer.
Roach wont be able to change him in 1 fight, but I’m sure he’s not going to let him be lazy, he will make him do his work in the gym and we’ll see if it helps him win this fight in a convincing way.

  7. JESUS Ex-sports celebs, actors and fading TV personalities are known to “lend out” their names at a price (this includes boxers too) to promote items, insurance companies, real estate brokers, resturants… you name it, whgen in REALITY they have no true connection nor partnership in any of these ventures.

  8. Don’t count out Mr Chvez just yet. The other day I saw a license plate frame that read ” Julio Cesar Chavez Auto Group ” No joke…

  9. didnt chavez jr get suspended for steroids? wow that was quick. this guy is horrible(chavez jr). so many fights and doesnt have one win against a legit fighter. this will be a no rating fight this hurts boxing

  10. JESUS Yes, I can go along wilth most of what you say, no problems. As for the ‘INHERITENCE’ ahhh… I was refering to the WORTH of the Chavez NAME, not the worth a Chavez Sr himself. We all know that he’s not financially where he should be. But.. due to his legendary career his son’s are IN FACT cashing in on the Chavez name, the name Papa Chavez made FAMOUS with his ring exploits and grand achievements. IF his boy’s last name wasn’t ‘Chavez’…. where would they actually be now?? Yes, I would dare say that the boys INHERITED something very valuable, their dad’s name, and they ARE cashing in, ahy not? Papa? He’s STILL alive. He didn’t have to die… yet.

  11. Chavez Jr. has no choice but to take on worthy opponents if he wants to well regarded in boxing. He can live off his dad’s name if he wants but I think the public doesn’t respect him for the fighters he has faced. He needs to lose so he can regroup and not take things for granted. Just ask Victor Ortiz.

EZ, with all due respect but there isn’t much inheritance to look forward to with Chavez Sr. He was en excellent fighter. Great champion. great guy too. I had the pleasure of meeting him and talking to him for a while but he’s not the same financially as he used to be. I think he is the one living off his name, as well he should.
Chavez Jr. ( and Omar) needs to put their own money away for a rainy day.

Anyway, I hope we see a good fight.

  12. LOVE BOXING ahhh….. Cogent”?? hmmmm…. I’ll have to look that word up. But if it’s good then… thank you! Paz!!

  13. Chavez Jr is no fool. He KNEW that having Julio Sr’s name would bring him some BIG buck$, much MORE than he would working a job. He’s still plenty YOUNG can walk away from the game after a possible TRILOGY with Duddy with enough to start out and venture on his own, with ALL his faculties. He has THE RIGHT to cash in on the Chavez name, it’s part of his INHERITANCE and didn’t have to wait until Papa Chavez to pass away to collect it!! Just like the sons of politicians, basesball players, engineeres, policemen… that don’t wind up being as good as their dads, they have a right to follow their father’s footsteps regardless. And so does Chavez Jr.

IT AINT EASY trying to fit in them LEGENDARY boots. And… IT AINT EASY being Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr, that’s for sure. And let’s face it… expecting Jr to be as good as his Dad is ASKING TOO MUCH!! If we objectively sit back aand ask ourselves “How many Chavez Srs should we/can we FORTUNATELY expect to witness in a lifetime?? The answer is: ONE.. if we are lucky.

Is he OVER-hyped?? YES!! Has he been OVER-protected?? YES!! Will he EVER be as good as his Dad?? Heaven’s NO, but.. who is??

Does he have a right to cash in on HIS name?? Yes, it’s HIS name, his father GAVE IT TO HIM!!

My advice is stay away from the elites, make some ca$h and get out.. young. But.. this I believe he ALREADY KNOWS. Peace to all!!

  14. Chavez senior is a lenmgend and his son is only hurting the legacy he should a prometer or go sell burritos cuz he can’t fight

  15. Honestly, I saw this one coming over a year ago, before Duddy’s loss to Billy Lyell. As for the fight itself, it should a “title” contest, for the “UNIVERSALLY RECOGNIZED”, “LINEAR” and “POUND 4 POUND”….. OVERHYPED CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD!!!… (can you imagine Buffer saying that?? hahaha)

This is in reality a GOOD and INTERESTING fight! Both are pretty evenly matched and will have the fans attention, with sort of an “event” atmosphere, I’d dare say. No, they aren’t top of the line fighters, being obviously pampers, carried, babied and protected for an event like this, but for some reason I’ll be looking forward to this one and I believe many will as well, whether they admit it or not.

  16. Chavez is in for a rude awakening. I’m betting on Duddy by late round TKO. I hope his dad doesn’t want to come out of retirement to avenge the lose.
