Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over former world champion Kermit Cintron (33-5-1, 28 KOs) on Saturday night at the Plaza Mexico in Mexico City.

At age 21, Saul Alvarez dropped Cintron with a right hand in round four Cintron beat the count, but nearly out on his feet and dangling from the ropes he struggle to walk back to his corner after the bell but only to get a beat down. The bout was stopped by referee. Time was 2:53.

After the fight Canelo said he wants to fight the best and wants a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr.

What’s your opinion on Canelo’s performance?

  1. Canelo and Chavez might be a better fight than most might expect, but I doubt that the Chavez people will let Jr. get anywhere near Canelo until they’ve gotten all the money they can possibly make with more hand-picked opponents. And as for Canelo facing Mayweather, if that fight could be made its a mega-pay-day for both. And an easy night of target-practice for Floyd.

  2. I think Canelo did an awesome job, I need him to move his head a little more. If he’s going to beat up on Chavez Jr. We need to see him move that head a little more. What do you guys think?

  3. He looked ok against a has been ….. But when are we gonna c real fighter that really deserve a shot at that WBC title????? I think a fight Kirkland or Cotto maybe even Vanes M. Should be good……

  4. Canelo looked good, but I must say that both he and Cintron looked tired. What’s funny to me is Canelo now challenged Mayweather. I’m sure money has a lot to do with it, but I think Canelo needs more exposure in the USA and to beat better opposition before any mega fight vs Mayweather will be considered by the promoters. On paper this looks like a sparring session for Floyd. With that said, I don’t think this fight could be sold in May 2012. Canelo needs to beat guys like Kirkland, Martisoyan, Cotto, just to name a few first.

  5. Canelo looked pretty good in this fight, but we know Cintron was picked because he’s been showing signs that he’s done. Next fight for Canelo should be Carlos Molina, he wont get the fight because he’s looked good as of late. Now and days the guys who deserve shots at belts are being avoided meanwhile fighters we’ve never heard of or guys who are on the downside of their careers are getting the calls for title fights. What good is molding Canelo into a future “super star” when his record is filled with nobodies or has beens by the time he’s fought them. We want real title fights with people who actually earned their shot or the right to be called a champion.
