cotto-caneloOne thing that I hate about boxing is that it is becoming all about the money. Fighters don’t care about belts or its fans. I understand money plays a big role but you have to understand that fans are the ones spending their hard earned money. In my previous post I stated that Pacquiao is slated to face Brandon Rios who is coming off a loss. I think that is pathetic.

Here’s another example of how money is manipulating the sport. Word is that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who recently won against Austin Trout, will be facing Miguel Cotto on Mexican Independence Day weekend, September 14th.

Miguel Cotto lost his last two fights; “Canelo” beat Austin Trout, the guy who last defeated the Puerto Rican. Personally I see this as a step back. Miguel Cotto is done. Losing two fights in a role should not reward you with an even bigger pay day.

“Canelo” is expected to win but as a fan, it doesn’t mean anything. If “Canelo” wants to prove to his fans that he is number one, he should fight Gennady Golovkin, Sergio Martinez or the winner of Lara-Angulo, just to name a few.

  1. Cotto would be a true test for Canelo, I don’t understand why everybody is saying cotto is done!!! Last I remember he gave Mayweather the hardest fight of his career!!! We know cotto got heart and chin, question is can Canelo take a shot from a ligitamate dangerous boxer/slugger? I like Canelo, but I don’t think he’s ever been punched by someone like cotto!

  2. What is it? Are you nuts? Cotto will be great test and learning experience for Canelo. If cotto really wants to win he will give Canelo the hardest fight he has ever had. Canelo needs more tough fights. He is not ready for mayweather, He slips punches nicely because he has great reflexes, but he does not make his opponent pay. Sometimes he slips and punches to the body but he doesnt punch back all the time. He is still to easy to hit.

  3. Martinez wont be back soon and golovnik is too risky for canelo. Chavez jr vs canelo just for fun and to celebrate mexican independece day! Ajua!

  4. Canelo has basically claimed 154- leaving only a fight with Mayweather desired by fans at that weight (I’d suggest Lara, but he is pretty much unknown). If Canelo moved up and fought a faded champion as his warm up at 160, I’d understand but fights against GGG, Martinez or even Quillin would be great fights for Canelo.
