There’s no doubt Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5-1, 46KOs) is probably the only worthy opponent to date that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will face. The question remains, does Rubio have what it takes to beat the WBC champion on February 04, 2012 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas?

Rubio lost at the hands of Kelly Pavlik in 2009. Before the start of the tenth round, Rubio’s corner stopped the fight. There is no shame losing to Pavlik, Pavlik is a hard hitter. Rubio then won six fights in a row and won an amazing fight against undefeated David Lemieux.

Rubio is the type of guy who refuses to quit and will continue to pressure Chavez. I say Rubio wins but the only way he win is by knocking Chavez out. If the fight goes to the score cards, I have a feeling Chavez will take the win regardless of Rubio’s performance. Its sad boxing has to be so corrupted but it’s the truth and Rubio knows it too.

“I will do my job and give the public a great fight and for me, that’s getting a knockout. There is no going back, the fight is done and we’re coming with everything to win the world title,” stated Rubio.

Let’s just hope Chavez doesn’t get injured or sick days before the fight as he’s known for pulling out of fights.

And for the record, I get asked a lot if I know what happened to Rubio regarding his skin. As far as I know he was not in an accident or got burned. Marco Antonio Rubio suffers from Vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition in which there is a loss of brown color (pigment) from areas of skin resulting in irregular white patches. It’s unknown what causes this. The condition affects about 1 out of every 100 people in the United States, even Michael Jackson suffered from Vitiligo.

The good news is that Chavez vs Rubio has the potential to being one of the best fights in 2012.

  1. @ Jamie, I agree he has improved a bit as well. He still isn’t hard to find and against Rubio he has the potential to get leveled. Rubio is a smart veteren who knows what adjustments to make during a fight. I would not be too surprised if Rubio puts Chavez away I’d be surprised if Chavez knocks out Rubio though.

  2. What we all have remember is that this is not the old Chavez jr …he has looked alot better the last couple of fights an he looks like a good fighter now ..better fit ..I think chavez might win by a knock out ….I just think he is a different fighter now …maybe more focused now …I don’t know …I just have seen a change over the last year ……

  3. No decision victory for Rubio as @ Jesus said here. Though he does have a good shot at a K.O. as the fake champ Chavez isn’t hard to find. Rubio has more than a puncher’s chance to win here he can do some damage given the oppertunity.

  4. I agree that Rubio will not win a decision against Chavez. He has promised a KO inside of 8 rounds. He said he will relinquish his purse if he does not. Now that’s confidence.
