NotiFight posted a strong rumor about Nate Campbell coming to an agreement to face junior welterweight Victor Ortiz as the co-main event on May 15th in Las Vegas when Juan Manuel Marquez takes on Amir Khan live on HBO.

I think Campbell taking on Ortiz will be an interesting fight but what is more interesting is though Amir Khan is scheduled to defend against Marquez in May, Khan is already planning on taking on Marcos Maidana after Marquez.

Last Tuesday, Marcos Maidana’s manger Mario Margosian supposedly came to an agreement with Khan’s new promoter Golden Boy Promotions to fight Khan by the end of the year and that both Maidana and Khan will use their upcoming opponents as tune up fights to stay active and give time to build the fight.

Maidana gave Victor Ortiz his first loss in June of last year and will be putting his title on the line on March 27 against WBA #2 Víctor Cayó from Dominican Republic.

I don’t know about you but Juan Manuel Marquez is no tune up fight or a walk in the park. Sorry Amir Khan but you just jinxed your self.

  1. Two things happened to Barrera going into the Khan fight.

    1. Six weeks before the fight, he fought in Mexico and won by DQ. Why ?
He was intentionally headbutted. Big cut over his left, etc. No way that cut healed in time to begin sparring and training correctly. He was a wounded soldier going into the Khan fight.

    2. Barrera had already been a part-time fighter. He hosts a boxing show on ESPN Deportes now.

You are either a fighter or you’re not. I’m not making excuses for the guy so don’t get me wrong. He had a great career and I enjoyed it. Khan took advantage of that as he well should. Barrera could not see out his left eye because the cut was reopened. Khan took advantage of that as well he should.
Khan is a great fighter in his own right. He will go very far if he stays focused. I hope Marquez gives him the fight of his life. I want to see the Marquez that fought Pacquiao and Juan Diaz. in the ring that night. It will be interesting and worth watching.

  2. Barrera could have said anything, but he was a very old 34 year old fighter when he fought Khan, those big battles take a lot away from fighter, same reason why Eric Moraleas is a very old 33 year old fighter right now an many other fighters that have had battle after battle.

Fighters will say anything to sell a fight but that doesnt mean they are top notch at the time.

Now Khan might be a hard fight for Marquez, he’s a young hungry fighter trained by the best traininer out there, it could be a hard fight, but by no means Marquez will be a walk in the park, that is totaly insane to think that and Freddie knows that more than anyone.

  3. Yeah it will be a tough fight I agree…since Marquez always takes the toughest fights…Khan is a real good fighter…I just want to see how he deals with Marquez excellent counter punching…

  4. I understand totally what are you saying, but if go back before this fight happened and hear what
Barrera was saying about Khan .he stated that
he will end his career and he had already put him in list as defeated as prince Hamed .
he was very confident that he was going to win
    the fight.
let’s wait and see khan vs Marquez ,I like Marquez in this fight based on his experience ,but I am positive it will be a rough road for marquez due to the fact that Khan is being trained by Roach and the intensive sparring sessions especially with Manny

  5. I’m not talking about age here but the stage of his career…there’s a difference…who cares how old Barerra was at the time…the point is he wasn’t the same fighter he used to be when he fought Khan

  6. People say that Khan beat Barerra at the of his career .he was only 35 years old for god sake
35 is old in your opinion ?!

  7. You can’t compare barrera with Marquez rite now…barrera was at the end of his career when he fought Khan and Marquez isn’t ranked one of the top pound for pound for no reason…this might just end up as fight of the year

  8. I am not a big not a big fan of khan ,but I think that he will give Marquez a very hard time if not
    wining the fight

  9. khan is a fool to think that fight with marquez is a walk in the park…………….marquez would win by tko.

  10. I agree, he thinks Marquez is a tune up fight? LOL
A fight with Marquez is bigger than a fight with Maidana, not sure if Khan actually watches boxing but if he really thinks that he’s in for a real surprice!
