The undefeated Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon will fight for the first time at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City. His opponent will be the Filipino Rodel Mayol in a defense of his jr. flyweight WBO title as part of the Cotto-Clottey undercard on June 13th.
Calderon will also be risking his perfect record of 32-0, 6KO. Mayol holds a 25-3, 19KO ledger and will be the fourth challenger to Calderon’s crown at the 108 lbs. limit.
“It has always been my dream to fight at the Garden and to do it on the eve of the Puerto Rican parade is very special for me. It will be a memorable night,” Calderon said.
If Calderon wins, Top Rank plans to match him against Brian Viloria who just defeated “Archie” Solis to rip away the IBF jr. flyweight strap.
Calderon is 15-0 in title fights. For Mayol it will be his third attempt for a world title.
