Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) won a unanimous decision to defend his WBC Silver light welterweight title over late sub Francisco Lorenzo (35-9, 16KOs) of the Dominican Republic on Saturday night at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, BC, Mexico. Lorenzo tasted the canvas early on, but after 12 rounds of war the Scores were Raul Caiz Sr. 116-111, Raul Caiz Jr. 114-113, Zach Young 115-112. Now with the win, Erik “Terrible” Morales is eyeing a lightweight bout against WBA and WBO champion Juan Manuel Marquez.
Jorge Arce (56-6-2, 43 KOs) scored a first round TKO over Adolfo Ramos (16-11-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night in Campeche, Mexico. Arce knocked Ramos. Ramos beat the count, but couldn’t take the barrage of punches that awaited him. Rumor is Arce will take on bantamweight champ Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. in 2011.
“Son of the Legend” Omar “Businessman” Chavez (21-0-1, 18 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a second round stoppage of Ignasi Caballero (5-3, 5 KOs).
