WBA super lightweight champion Andreas Kotelnik and challenger Amir Khan spoke to the press today about their upcoming fight which had to be rescheduled to July 18 and moved from London to Manchester after Kotelnik damaged his teeth during a sparring session. “I am returning to the Ukraine tomorrow morning for a minor operation on one of the teeth,” said Kotelnik. “This will not affect my training and I will resume sparring within a week.” Khan stated “When I beat him, the last thing I want is people saying he beat a man with a toothache. I’m happy the fight is going ahead. That’s the main thing. I didn’t want to lose the chance for a world title.” Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach called Kotelnik’s claims ‘bull****,” and commented “You can’t have surgery and recover in two weeks – come on!”
