Fighter Alfonso Gomez will be performing live at Sunday’s show

hy3idWorld Boxing Hall of Fame (WBHF) Board of Director Adolfo Perez Jr. is promoting a special cultural festival called “Viva La Lucha.” Taking place tomorrow in downtown L.A. The nine-hour event offers live music, arts, special celebrity guests and popular Mexican wrestling.

Boxer Alfonso Gomez will be performing live with Hy3rid, a band whose members include the fighter’s two brothers, Robb and Zeuz.

“I was always involved in music, but boxing is my passion. So now I’m collaborating boxing and music at this all-day event; it’s a revolutionary idea,” show promoter Perez tells me. “The lineup is incredible! We have Grammy award winning bands. We have an art exhibition from local Latino artists, we have two stages and a wrestling ring!”

Perez Jr. says his father, former WBHF President, Adolfo Perez Sr. will be the man on the mike for the “Lucha Libre” wrestling show. “Wrestling for first-generation Mexicans was sometimes taboo, we had to watch it secretly,” the younger Perez explains. “Now Lucha Libre is in Mexico, Japan, it’s huge. My company is World Wrestling Association, and we’ll have Blue Demon and Huracan Ramirez Jr. in person here on Sunday. We even have midget wrestlers!”

He’s also very excited about the musical guests, “Everyone on the stage is huge. Our main event is Nortec, Royal Bloodline (a new project by Molotov), Eric Bobo (from Cypress Hill), Maleco, Sick Jacken and many upcoming Latino artist from the L.A. area.

“The whole concept, our vision is to have a Latino Coachella festival. We want to preserve the integrity of the show. We’ll have an outdoors event and one in Chicago in September.”

Opening the show on Sunday will be the Gomez brothers. Hy3rid recently played in the Guitar Center’s 2009 “Battle of the Bands” and placed in the Top 3 out of hundreds to top-notch musicians.

“I wanted to invite Alfonso to play at this event so the fans can see them,” states Perez Jr. He also had an assist from another WBHF Board of Director, Henry Vega, who brought the Seven Forty Club venue to Perez. Vega explains to me, “I’ve been involved in the entertainment business for a while, promoting shows in the area. And this weekend’s event is one I’m really looking forward to!

Perez invites everyone to come down and take part in this historic event that offers something for everyone. “Re-Public Vision and Michael Lozano are my Co-promoters and I also have Punch Out Promotions, Jasso, Edgar and Sal Straita, the boxing brothers, Ozzy, LaUnion1910 and others all supporting this event.”
