Boxers Continue to Look Like Idiots

I don’t get it… Why do some people think they’re worth more than what they really are? At the end they look like idiots. I think its called being greedy.

As you probably already know, Kelly Pavlik was scheduled to fight Darryl Cunningham in his hometown but withdrew after he refused to fight “for peanuts.” Pavlik looked like an idiot in front of his promoter Top Rank and the Showtime network but most importantly his hometown fans by pulling out.

The kid from Youngstown, Ohio, complained about his purse of $50,000 and also a $1.35 million offer to challenge IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in November. Let me remind you Pavlik hasn’t fought since being in rehab and this is not the first time he has pulled out of a fight.

After realizing no one is in a rush to get him back in the squared circle, co-manager Cameron Dunkin told ESPN that Kelly Pavlik regrets his “horrible decisions” and is willing to fight for $10,000 WTF? Now he is willing to fight for free, practically.

Pavlik is not the only one looking like a fool. There’s also Timothy Bradley who has been sitting on the sidelines after turning down $1.4 million to fight Amir Khan and by the way things are looking, Bradley is not fighting anytime soon nor would he be offered a million dollar fight in his next outing.

While some people call it fighting for peanuts, I call it being a greedy fool and at the end of the day, you look like a dog with his tail between his legs, crawling back to its owner after realizing no one wants you. Not only are you not making money but you’re losing your fan base by being greedy.

So please stop being an idiot.

  1. Your 100% right Edgar, these guys got to smartin up and start making better buisness decisions. You couldnt have said it better than you did in your article. They give lame performances and ask for multi millions, it doesnt make sence. I know there’s a little weight difference but I think Gamboa would be a good opponent for either Bradly or Alexander which I think are both overrated.

  2. If I was Pavlik I would try to get all the TV bouts I can get to try and build a fan base again. Even for peanuts. He needs to shake off some of the ring rust and get back to title contention. I hope he wakes up and smells the coffee soon.

  3. @Jonny-Boy I hate sounding like a dick sometimes, but its true. What is wrong with this boxers…

Who do you know that comes out of rehab to a $50,000 fight to shake off that ring dust and then calls that fighting for peanuts. I really like Pavlik, but his starting to push me away.

and about Bradley I bet he wishes he took the fight now… the biggest pay day of his Carrier he turns it down.. what a Joke….

  4. Well said Edgar, I don’t get it either a guy who draws a descent crowd like Pavlik complaining about making over a million dollars and more if he had gone through and beaten Bute (overrated fighter in my book) and basically being given 50 grand for fighting a guy who was there to be help Pavlik shake the rust not bad for a fighter coming off a loss. As for Bradley don’t get me started a guy with no fan base thinks he has weight to throw around especially coming off that horrible fight with Alexander (overrated at the time) Khan even got generous and all Bradley looked like at the end of the day was a wimp. These guys need to get their acts straight and show why they are worth the kind of money they want with exciting ring performances.
