After 2007 Manager of the Year Frank Espinoza announced that he had recently signed up and coming bantamweight Abner Mares to a managerial contract, Nacho Beristain stated that he will no longer train the former Mexican Olympian.
“I don’t understand what is going with Nacho Beristain. Abner was ready to go back to Mexico City and continue training with Nacho,” Espinoza
stated still shocked from the news. “I have nothing against him but it might be because of the rivalry between Vazquez and Rafael Marquez.
This is a business and that his how Nacho Beristain should see it.”
Espinoza also revealed that Mares will fight on the undercard of the Marquez-Mayweather Jr. bout on July 18th.
He also stated that in a couple of days a new trainer for Mares will be announced.
