At only a month from the crucial bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Marquez’s trainer, the famed Nacho Beristain, says that he is worried about the little speed Marquez has acquired for the bout through his training.
“Juan Manuel looks very strong but I am worried because we haven’t gotten the speed we need for this bout,” Beristain stated. “We cannot compete with a fighter like Mayweather with his actual speed.”
Beristain is convinced that Marquez sacrificed speed to gain the muscle and the weight to reach the near welterweight limit and believes that he crossed the line.
“Its going to be difficult now for him to gain that speed. Its like soccer players, sometimes they have trouble getting the rhythm of competing,” Beristain continued. “That is how Juan Manuel is right now and I am getting a little frustrated.”
“We are still a month away from the fight so there is still time,” Beristain, who also trains Rafael Marquez, said. “The problem was the weight training was too much and now it is costing us.”
