The same way Manny Pacquiao filed a lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather alleging that Mayweather and others defamed him by falsely accusing Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs, now Freddie Roach is showing his true colors as he continues to embark on a campaign stating that Margarito knew about the loaded gloves. Not only is he spreading rumors in every interview he does but he’s also accusing Margarito of using loaded gloves for the Miguel Cotto and Kermit Cintron fights.

Roach is trying to flip the media against Margarito making it seem Roach is the victim. Not once did I hear Roach talk about Pacquiao in this interview. Why doesn’t he talk about Pacquiao using drugs, I mean if I am not hiding anything why wouldn’t I agree to random blood test? Like Pacquiao says, “Its common sense right.”
I don’t mind when there is trash talking like, “I am going to knock you out,” “I am going to kick your ass,” that’s normal but when you’re accusing someone of attempted murder, that’s not acceptable and I am tired of people comparing Margarito’s hand wrap scandal with Panama Lewis and Luis Resto.
For one, in Resto’s case, the padding was removed from the gloves, secondly, plaster was put into the wraps that covered Resto’s fist and third, during the rounds, Panama
gave him water spiked with an antihistamine and finally, Luis Resto actually used all of the above during the fight but most importantly he knew about it.
During An HBO documentary entitled Assault in the Ring, Resto, who also served 2 1/2 years on charges including assault and conspiracy because of the fight, told the Assault in the Ring film maker Eric Drath that Lewis took the gloves into the bathroom before the fight and he knew the gloves where tampered.
Margarito did his time according to the California State Athletic Commission for the actions of Javier Capetillo. It seems people are not mad cause of the hand wrap scandal but the fact that Antonio Margarito got the opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao and earning him the largest payday of his career and the potential of winning another world championship, that’s the truth. While Roach tries to put everyone against Margarito it makes me not like him.

sorry, but articles like these irritate me. stop being ignorant and realize that the accusations of margarito are based on fact and NOT speculation. plaster was found in margarito’s wraps, so there is every right to speculate that he had to have known during his previous fights. pacquiao has not been accused, NOR caught with performance enhancing drugs. a defamation lawsuit was filed because pacquiao is the global figure of the sport (who also carries a whole country on his shoulder.) margarito is not the figure of boxing.

I agree with you that all boxers that break the rules that could cause harm to their opponent should face appropriate criminal charges and be banned from boxing in the US for life. I wasn’t defending Mosley or any other boxer that has committed a boxing crime. Margarito is getting so much more press because he is fighting Manny. I dont have anything against Margarito as a mexican boxer. I am a fan of many mexican boxers. This is not a race thing . It’s a boxing thing.

Okay boxing fans, if you truly love the sport of boxing then we all need to take some responsibility in this issue. Take care in what you say and who you blame. The facts are that Margarito was caught with plaster in his hand wraps before the Mosley fight. This was clear intent to use these loaded wraps on Mosley. I am amazed that the commision allowed him to continue the fight and get paid. Mosley should have gotten his money and Margarito and his trainer should have been arrested with attempted assault with a deadly weapon or , even better, attempted murder. We can only speculate with the idea that Margarito had loaded wraps with Cotto and Cintron but one would say it is very suspicious after we seen the beating he took from Mosley with legal hand wraps. Anyone seen the photos of Margarito after the Cotto fight with his hand raised and a pink color on his wraps? Even more suspicious. Remember the outcome of the Cotto and Mosley fight. Think about it. Pacquaio and Roach are doing marketing to sell tickets and PPV. The whole thing is about the money. Roach is one of my favorite trainers and I think one of the best in the world but I disagree with giving this money fight to Margarito. My son is a real boxer and we all know that every boxer knows his hand wraps. They do sit face to face with the guy thats wrapping their hands and know exactly how they should look and feel. There is no chance that Margarito didnt know about the loaded wraps. He has no defense except with fans that only watch boxing on TV. The athletes and the trainers know that he knew. If you think the charges of attempted assault or attempted murder are harsh or not warranted you need to think again. It should be personal to every athlete, coach, fan, and boxing commissioner. These athletes risk their lives everytime they get into the ring. Competition or sparring, there is the same risk. Using loaded wraps greatly increased the risk of permanent injury or death. Do you think that Margaritos trainer and Margarito really had no idea about the loaded wraps and what they could do to their opponent. I seen the interview where his manager was saying that Margarito was asking him what was going on after they found the loaded wraps and made him change. How many years has he been in boxing? Does anyone really think he didnt’t know the significance of what he just got caught with. Please! That is an insult to our intelligence. Margarito was a greedy coward and lacked any since of concern for the sport of boxing and more importantly, the safety of his opponent. I am a true boxing fan . I volunteer my time for the youth in amateur boxing and assist my husband with our small gym. We , with the help of others, train our son and many other kids in our community. These situations embarrass me for the sport of boxing . I live in central Texas and am embarassed that our state is allowing Margarito to fight without a hearing and against the California commisions decision. I know there is a lot of money involved and that it will be bringing a lot to our state. There are times, however, when people just have to do the right thing. The qualities we teach in our gym are those that our son has learned from being a boxer; integrity, discipline, sportsmanship, accountability and character. I don’t see any of these in this Margarito issue. If we want the sport of boxing to thrive and have the respect and excitement it once did then we need to get people like Margarito out. Reading these comments I hear a lot of different views mixed with hostility based on these news conferences and 24/7 interviews. All that you ,as boxing fans and athletes ,need to listen to and go by are the facts. Margarito broke a very serious rule and was slapped on the hand. If this is how we handle this type of violation what is there to discourage others from trying it? How much money and noteriety will they get before they get caught? How many boxers can they ruin or injure? Then they get a break from the states and come back for many of you people that are seriously misinformed to defend you. Poor Margarito? Poor Roach? Poor Pacquaio? No way! I’m sure Mosley is thanking God for having a coach that looked out for him and I would hope that he learned that what goes around can also come around.
