The interim WBC lightweight champion, Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17KO) of Los Mochis, MX, began his training camp mid December in his adopted hometown of Tijuana, MX, for his challenge for the full fledged WBC title of Venezuela’s Edwin Valero (26-0, 26KO) on February 6th in Monterrey, MX.

“We had a good rest, we went home to Los Mochis and I visited my family. We got back and began training in mid December. They called us about the fight and we came back to train, its not such a big deal, this is our work and it is what we love to do and we are ready,” DeMarco stated after an intense training session.

DeMarco was crowned as the WBC interim champion after stopping Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua in ten rounds last October in Las Vegas, NV. Now, DeMarco trains with the same intensity that he did three months ago.

“Its the same, the same rhythm and with the same effort. My whole team and myself, we are working hard so that we can win this fight” DeMarco stated. “One thing I can say, this is the hardest I have worked in training camp because my bout against Valero is personal.”

DeMarco,23, also mentioned that the championship bout against the undefeated Valero came at the right time in his career.

“I have always said that God does certain things for a reason. God put this opportunity at my doorstep and I have to take advantage of it. This is the right time for me for this fight,” DeMarco said. “As far as Valero, when I said it was personal, I meant it as it is a personal challenge for myself. There is a lot of negative people that say that I won’t make it past three rounds in this fight and it is a personal challenge for myself to prove to those people and to myself that I am ready for Valero and much more.”

DeMarco, 23, does not deny that he has heard some of the comments that Valero has made in the press but he will not succumb to what he believes is another facet of the profession he chose.

“To me, they are just rumors that people say or even Valero himself who said that Humberto “Zorrita” Soto and myself are little Mexican girls because we weren’t willing to face him in Venezuela. I have respect for him because he is a fellow boxer and we both know what we have to sacrifice to climb into a ring,” DeMarco stated. “I have a lot of respect for him as a person and as a fighter because I have nothing against him. Once in the ring, that respect goes away because this is a sport in which one has to go in with everything, to win, to try to knock out your opponent because he is trying to knock you out.”

DeMarco added that it does not bother him if his next opponent talks about him.

“No, on the other hand, I like it, I like that he mentions me even in that way,” DeMarco says chuckling. “For me it is something natural in this sport, the thrash talk, but it is not about that, it is about getting ready for a fight and climbing into that ring and putting on a great fight for the fans and for oneself.”

  1. everything u said I already know.my whole point was marquez took the fight and no body force him to take it .is this something to blame floyd for?!
    why are you guys haters

  2. You call your self “boxing fan”, but is more like “mayweather fan”.
I’m not sure what sport you’ve been watching, but in boxing 2 pounds is not just dust, specially when we are talking about a fighter (Marquez) who has never fought at Welterweight and another who is coming down on weight (Mayweather)

If you knew a little bit about how the body works you would know that if you usually walk around weighing more that 150 pounds and you come down, lets say to 147 for weighing night, next day at fight night your body will rehydrate, plus food this means you will regain at least 10 pounds,

But in the other hand a fighter that has to go up in weight will not have the same weight gain during the 24 hour span compare to the one that naturally weights more.

Just to name an example Arturo Gatti when he fought Joey Gamache he weight in at 140, over night he dehydrated and came in 20 pounds heavier thank Joey on fight night, (and if your a boxing fan then you should know what happened to Joey) still he made weight the night before the fight.

2 pounds is no dust and that is why he ended paying $600 000 and also why he will pay 10 million per pound against Pacquiao, i don’t know but something tells me he will make weight this time if they actually fight lol.

You seem to not know the basics of this sport, not sure why you call your self boxing fan, you should rename your self to mayweather fan, then it would make sense. ( not to offend any Mayweather fans, aside from all the BS I still think he has tremendous talent and skills, probably like no one else has in a long time).

  3. it seems that you is willing to put the blame on floyd no matter what.Marquez is an adult who decided to fight Floyd ,but ironically is always floyd who to blame .He was heavier only 2 pound at the weighing day that is all matter ,so you wanna tell me that 2 lbs is what make marquez look like crap through out the fight .he was literally a punching bag

  4. Oh and by the way that is why now with Pacquaio there is the 10 million for each pound overweight, before with Marquez there was no weight contract and Mayweather abused that, not very professional, but it’s all business right..please.

  5. No one is crying, but the reality is there was nothing in the contract about weight, he payed him 600, 000 weight in day, instead of running the weight out, what do you expect, leave everyone hanging, fight fans, months or training, pay day and pay for everyone involved with the event?

Mayweather knew Marquez would not say let’s cancel the fight, that’s totally not professional, and that’s not crying man it’s just how it is, you can see the results only and say ha! see Marquez was never in the fight, he got beat up by Mayweather, but the reality is that fight was lost at the scale, there was no chance in hell he could have won with Mayweather weighing 15 or more pounds on fight night with Marquez coming from a lower weight class on his first fight at that weight.

I’m not making excuses, Mayweather clearly won all the rounds, but there was more to it and to be honest I still think Mayweather would have won the fight even if he had made weight but it probably would have been a competitive one.

  6. there was a contract and he paid ,so stop crying
that’s why the contracts are for. It’s all about business Tijuana.

  7. Mayweather Marquez? You mean the fight where he came overweight, Marquez was able to make weight but Mayweather didn’t even try, god know how many pounds was he heavier on fight night because he refuse to disclose it and now he is asking for a fair and level gameplay against Pacquaio, please, think before u speak.

  8. Edwin Valero is one ugly motherfucker, he’s a little rough on the eyes with that mummy face of his.

  9. he will KO demarco. I can’t recall all the names that he has knocked out ,but they were all boxers and pro boxers and to win all his fights by 100% KO ratio I think it’s impressive .
your defending Demarco because he is Mexican
it’s obvious and nothing wrong with that ,but he will be knocked out .
did you enjoy how maywethear played with juan manuel’s face hahahahaha.

  10. Velero has a great record can’t argue that, but tell me who has he beaten?

DeMarco is an upcoming fighter who is taking on anyone unlike Cesar Chavez Jr.

  11. When does Antonio train? I know he trains in el CREA, would be nice if I could go see him train, I’m becoming a a bigger fan with each of his fights, pure talent right there, no BS like other boxers.
