For Antonio DeMarco (24-2-1, 18KOs), the last two weeks of camp are always the hardest. Not because the work intensifies or the diet gets scarcer but because the 24-year-old former interim WBC lightweight champion can’t wait to get in the ring.

“I am anxious to get in the ring, I have been training for quite some time and I feel I am ready right now,” DeMarco stated from the CREA Gym in his adoptive hometown of Tijuana, MX. “I am still sparring right now but that will tape off as we come closer to the fight date.”

The southpaw DeMarco, originally of Los Mochis, MX, will be facing Mexico City’s Reyes Sanchez (20-3-1, 11KOs) for the WBC Silver belt on Saturday, February 26th, at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. The championship bout is promoted by Gary Shaw Promotions and broadcast on Showtime.

Under the tutelage of Romulo Quirarte, DeMarco has been sparing his gym mates Orlando Lora, Omar Estrella and Juan Pablo “CheChe” Lopez at the CREA Gym in the heart of Tijuana.

“Lora and Lopez have given me great work, they are tall like Reyes Sanchez,” DeMarco stated. “Since I am tall for the division, I usually fight shorter opponents but I am ready for Sanchez.”

The winner of the bout is next in line to challenge current full fledged WBC lightweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto.
