2004 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward, (19-0, 12 KOs), successfully defended his NABO & NABF Super Middleweight titles with an easy decision over Edison Miranda, (32-4, 28 KOs), by scores of 119-109, 119-109, 116-112. Ward, who was cut over his left eye due to an unintentional headbutt in the first round, used his speed and movement to neutralize the power of Miranda through most of the fight. Ward then danced out of harm’s way from a defeated Miranda the last two rounds to secure the victory.

In the opening bout of Saturday night’s ShoBox: The Next Generation telecast, rising prospect John Molina, Jr. (17-0, 13 KOs) was awarded a controversial second round stoppage win over normally durable Frankie Archuleta, (25-7-1, 14 KOs). Archuleta was fighting evenly with Molina through the first round and a half before a sudden flurry punctuated by a right hook dropped Archuleta with a minute remaining. Archeluta was not badly hurt and started walking to the neutral corner before referee David Mendoza inexplicably waved the bout over at 2:04 of round two.

2008 U.S. Olympian Shawn Estrada, (6-0, 6 KOs), quickly disposed of late replacement Cory Jones, (5-6, 1 KO), in the first round of a four-round super middleweight bout. Jones, who weighed in one pound under the middleweight limit, was no match for the bigger, stronger Estrada. Estrada knocked Jones down with a right hook high to the temple, and after Jones rose on unsteady legs, Estrada pounced on him with several unanswered punches before the referee stepped in at 1:31
