Cops 4 Kids & Communities’ Charity Boxing Show
In the spirit of the holidays, the “Chatter Box” would like to give a shout out to an upcoming event featuring an all-female charity boxing show hosted by Cops 4 Kids & Communities’ (C4KC) set to take place at the Pala Casino near Temecula THIS Saturday, December 1.
This SoCal “Battle of the Badges” amateur boxing card will feature many “She-Warriors” in and around the community. Lacing up all in the name of charity will be a spirited group of women volunteering their time to give back to the children and teens in need. The action will go down in the Events Center which holds about 2000 fans.
During this historic all-female fight night with C4KC, you’ll get to see “Women of Law Enforcement and Public Safety” showcased in the ring.
I’ve attended many “Battle of the Badges” events and the women’s bouts are always crowd favorites. Due to the popularity of the lady sluggers, C4KC’s Executive Director and former officer Jeff Penn and his organization decided to hold this special night of fisticuffs dedicated to the women. The monies raised will help at-risk kids in the Southern California region through C4KC with a portion also going to help Breast Cancer Awareness.
Show organizer Jeff Penn has even fought in previous shows and he and his committee, board members and volunteers always do a bang-up job of presenting an action-packed and fun evening for the attendees. There are always unique and colorful walkout entrances, live bands like Little George and the Big Time and special celebrity guests. “X Factor” contestant Caylie Gregorio will also be back for an encore performance. Penn tells me the young star will be singing the National Anthem as well as perform in a tribute to Rebekah Ford, a beloved member of the C4KC family who lost her brave battle against cancer two months ago. The comedic duo of Ken Southern and Mark Blanton are also back by popular demand as the official ring announcers. Past events have been rousing events featuring competitive wars in the ring.
Saturday should be no different approximately 10 bouts are scheduled for combat. Squaring off will be officers and members from the Fire Department, EMT, Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Forest Service, CDC, Armed Forces and more. And during the night, if you happen to hear the saying “Fight Like a Girl,” consider it a compliment as the fairer sex will prove they are just as tough as their male counterparts.
The co-main will be between Rachel Dunn and Selina Velasquez with the main event of Alison Jablonsky and Margaret Stewart set to explode. The women will be coming out of their corners fighting for that victory. And win or lose, all will bond together in the name of this worthwhile charity. And after all the amateur bouts are completed, the fans are invited to the post-fight party at Infinity where Bostyx (a Boston and Styx cover band) will take the stage.
The “Battle of the Badges” gladiators will meet face to face at today’s weigh-in in Hemet and the stakes will be raised as the fight night nears.
This year has been a busy one for the nonprofit. This will be the third charity fight night Jeff Penn and C4KC have organized in 2012. The group has also held boxing and MMA cards earlier this year but Penn says he loves the sweet science. “My heart is in boxing,” he states.
Jeff also reiterates that this is the very first time they have ever had an all-female card and the public is encouraged to come out and lend support to the ladies. “We are hoping for a full house and I think the fights will be great!” Penn mentions before heading over to tonight’s weigh-in. “We have special invited guests like Armando Muniz and Danny “Little Red” Lopez. And this time, Dallas Malloy will also be at the fights, which is definitely fitting for this show.”
Malloy is a pioneer in women’s boxing. She fought for the right to compete in amateur boxing. At age 16, she fought in the first-ever sanctioned bout by USA Boxing. Now she and the whole crowd at Pala will be rootin’ for the ladies lacing up for this worthwhile cause.
