There was a whisper of Golden Boy Promotions trying to claim the lost dog, Alfredo Angulo, who has been laying low due to some immigration issues. The rumor has now reached the dog’s owner, Gary Shaw. Angulo was spotted sniffing at a Golden Boy’s card during the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana fight in Las Vegas few weeks ago. As Angulo and his team of lawyers continue to try and work out his illegal-alien/ residency issues here in the U.S.
Talks of Angulo signing with Golden Boy heat up. When contacted by Leave-It-In-The-Ring.com earlier this week, representatives of Golden Boy Promotions would not go on record regarding the current state of negotiations with Alfredo Angulo and his team, both simply stating, “I haven’t heard anything about that yet”.
LIITR also spoke with the dog’s owner Shaw and asked if he had heard of Angulo being back in the U.S. and if he had heard any of the rumors of Alfredo possibly breaking away to sign with Golden Boy Promotions.
“I have no idea to either one of your questions. I have not heard anything about that, I doubt that. I have a rock-solid contract so I don’t think Alfredo would do that,” said Gary Shaw from his offices in Totowa, New Jersey.
I can’t say if the rumor is true. I know Angulo is a loyal dog and is hard to believe he will do such thing but then again, in desperate need of getting back on U.S. soil, anything is possible. We all know Golden Boy is capable of trying to taking ownership of what is not theirs, especially if there’s a briefcase full of money along with a green card. Just ask Manny Pacquiao, he will be the first to admit Golden Boy can be a bit persuasive. Golden Boy also tried the same tactics to lure Diego Corrales from Gary Shaw by offering him a six-figure signing bonus. One possible reason for Golden Boy being so high on Angulo is to stage another GBP tournament on HBO like they have been doing with their lightweights, this time in the talent-rich junior middleweight division.
Current junior middleweight prospects under the Golden Boy Promotional banner include James Kirkland, Sergio Mora, Saul Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs.
What’s your opinion?
alfedo angilo is 28 i think gary shaw is the one that ratid him out there is no logical explanation for what happen
El Perro should go to GBP right after his G. Shaw contract. Why not? I truly believe GBP puts on a great show and has an entertaining stable of fighters.
A junior middle weight tournament would be the SH–!!!!!!!!!!
I hope thet can get this done because it would be the best tournament right now!!
I think he should do what ever it takes to get back in that ring…….cause he ain’t getting any younger… I think he’s like 29??
