Colombian Boxer Continues His Quest

Colombian middleweight Alexander Castro (12-1, 10 KOs) is ready to get back in the ring. And he has his sights set on nemesis Ian Green (17-2, 11 KOs). Green is scheduled to face Mark DeLuca (30-4, 18 KOs) but no agreement has been officially sanctioned by the WBA yet.

Without any official confirmation as of today, this opens the door for a young and hungry Castro.

And the Colombiano has the strong desire to enter the ring again versus Green. Their January 21 fight in Miami was an intense back-and-forth battle that had the crowd roaring. After 10 rounds of nonstop action it was a split-decision with Green getting the nod from two of the judges (96-94) and Castro receiving a 96-94 score from the third judge. It was a war of attrition that had the famed Don King Productions saying it was one of their very best fights in all of their decades-long history.

Castro is a gym rat who is always ready to step inside the ropes. The Tulua boxer just had a stay-busy fight on September 1 in Colombia and won a victory over Oscar Cuero (16-10, 13 KOs). The former World Boxing Council (WBC) FECARBOX champ is trained by ex-pro Danny Santiago and also has manager Steve Harpst and Cali Promotions (Louis Dell, Sean Ford and Dan Hartwick) in his corner.

Nothing would make Castro happier than an Ian Green rematch on November 4. He wants to show the audience what he can do on a worldwide stage.

And the legendary boxing promoter Don King would also be interested in this sequel as it would surely be another barn burner between the two warriors.

The official statement from Don King Productions:

New Jersey WBA Continental Americas Middleweight Champion Ian Green is a champion in waiting.

The WBA continues to drag its feet in sanctioning the Middleweight Championship set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at Casino Miami Jai Alai. Promoter Don King had previously paired Green with Whitman, MA star Mark DeLuca (30-4, 18 KOs) and the WBA has not yet given the final go ahead for the title fight.

With the fight card a month away, if the WBA doesn’t want to give DeLuca the opportunity, then present the rematch fight to Colombia’s Alexander Castro (12-1, 10 KOs), who fought Green tooth and nail in a crowd pleaser in which Green won a split decision.

Castro returned to the gym and has since returned to the ring on Sept. 1, and scored an impressive victory over Oscar Cuero in Colombia. Castro pounded Cuero for four rounds with devastating shots and Cuero refused to fight after the completion of the fourth round.

Promoter King is all about bringing the best fights to the people and if he can’t pair Green and DeLuca, give them a second helping of Green and Castro.

“Ian Green and Alexander Castro put on a great blistering performance fight and stole the show as the best fight of the night in January,” said Don King. “Bringing the fans excitedly cheering to their feet on several occasions. That is what the boxing fans want. So let’s return to glory again WBA President Mendoza and give the boxing fans what they want…a return match.”

A return match is what Team Castro has its eye on. And as the colorful and controversial Don King says, “That is what the boxing fans want.”

And that is what Alex Castro wants. Keep your eyes on Alexander “The Great” as he hopes to get his chance at another championship bout!
