With last week’s prediction fight of the week called off, we look to this week’s matchup. After having to postpone the championship of Showtime’s bantamweight tournament, we finally are going to see a great fight as Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares face off in the tournament final.
Both fighters have fought and beat Yohnney Perez (Agbeko splitting 2 fights) and Vic Darchiniyan. Both are stars in their division. Agbeko seems to have more power and slugger nature, but Mares brings youth and a tremendous amount of skill and finesse.
Agbeko, who had to pull out of the original date due to a bout with sciatica, is coming to bring that unrelenting pressure on Mares. Mares will be able to stand the pressure and use his skills to defeat Agbeko.

I’m very tempted to choose Agbeko just because everyone believes Mares will be winning by some form of decision. If I was on the fence a little more, then I may have chosen Agbeko. I will stick with my prediction of Mares by UD.

Mares KO round 9 in a great fight. Both fighters will have their moments, but Mares will wear down and catch Agbeko. Great early rounds
As much as i’d like to see Mares become a world champion, i gotta go with King Kong on this one. Everybody knows he can brawl but on his last fight, Agbeko also showed he’s got some solid boxing skills against Yohnny Perez. And he easily beat Vic Darchinyan who gave Mares so much trouble with the left when they met. Agbeko is one tough dude, don’t count him out.
Mares (T)KO- with a body shot in the 10th round. I think this will be a great fight but since everyone predicts a decision I will go with Mares by TKO. Although I think Agbeko has a great shot at winning as well I will stick by Mares.
