WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KOs) demolished John Molina (24-2, 19 KOs) in just 44 second of round one at the Oracle Arena on the Andre Ward-Chad Dawson undercard. DeMarco wobbled Molina, then got a referee’s stoppage with a merciless barrage of punches. It was a stunning end for Molina of Covina, Calif., whose six-fight winning streak came to an end without a sweat being broken.

“He got caught in the first round with a left. He got buzzed,” said Joe Goossen, Molina’s trainer. “Then DeMarco threw a lot of punches. John should have taken a knee, but it’s hard to think when you’re in a position like that.”

Adrien Broner will be next in line for DeMarco. HBO senior vice president Kery Davis said he would try to finalize the DeMarco-Broner fight with the promoters as soon as possible.

A Broner-DeMarco matchup could be beneficial to the careers of both fighters. For Broner, it would be a way to silence critics who say that he hasn’t been fighting the best fighters available and it would be another championship in a second weight division.

DeMarco would most likely be getting a career high payday and a win over Broner could make him a household name.

Gary Shaw, DeMarco’s promoter said “It’s a discussion that I had with HBO this morning. I told them that DeMarco would fight anybody at 135-pounds, including Broner, but they have to make the money right. This is a kid who ate out of the garbage [when he was younger] and now he wants to buy a home for his family.”
