Over 300 Turkeys and $10,000 in Donations Given to Hawaiian Gardens Community
On Nov. 22, world class boxer Abner Mares, who has won worlds titles in three weight division and holds an impressive record of 27-1, will distribute roughly $10,000 worth of food to less fortunate families in his hometown of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif. As a way to give back to his beloved childhood community, Abner began this annual Turkey Giveaway last year and plans to continue this tradition for years to come.
“This is an important way for me to give back to my community,” said Mares. “When I was growing up, my family relied on shelters, food banks and giveaways like this to feed our family at Thanksgiving and during the holidays. I know what it’s like to be in that position. This is a way for me to give back and help people who were like me when I was growing up.”
Abner will be donating over 300 turkeys in addition to other festive Thanksgiving fare including tortillas, salsas, potatoes, beans, rice and pumpkin pie.
