Yesterday Javier Capetillo hosted a fund raising soccer game in honor of the former WBC / WBA Super featherweight champion Genaro ”Chicanito” Hernandez to help with the medical bills as he battles with a rare cancer.
The event took place at the East Los Angeles Community College Stadium.
One of the games consisted of some well-known boxers such as Antonio Margarito, Alfredo Angulo, Jorge Barrios and many others as well as members of the L.A. Galaxy soccer team versus members of local radio stations and Canal 52 reporters, as well as performances by guest comedians and singers.
Early in January the World Boxing Council (WBC) Legends of Boxing Museum (LBM) held a fundraising dinner for the champion and raised $33 thousand. Many people came to support Chicanito and boxing fans got more than expected, The Tijuana Tornado and other boxers signed autographs thru out the game.
