You can always bet that Jorge “Hiena” Barrios will be in a spectacular fight and if he has a great boxer like Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez of Los Angeles, CA by way of El Salvador in front of him, the clash might even be a canditate for fight of the year.
The Barrios-Hernandez bout will be part of the lightweight tournament being put together by Golden Boy Promotions on April 4th from Houston, TX.
“I am very happy in fighting again on HBO, which is an important stage and against a former champion like “Famoso” Hernandez,” Barrios commented. “I think its going to be a battle unless my hand slips and I end up knocking him out.”
Barrios has not fought since his defeat at the hands of Rocky Juarez by 11th round TKO back in September of last year after the “Hiena” suffered a nasty gash on his upper lip.
“The Rocky Juarez fight is in the past. I threw 1050 punches in that fight so you can imagine the conditioning that I had. I had the bad luck of suffering that cut on my lip that later I had to get surgery for,” Barrios remembers. “My revenge will be against Hernandez because I am coming prepared to knock him out.”
As far as how the fight against the former world champion Hernandez will play out, Barrios stated “we are two fighters that come forward, that like to fight and I think it’s going to be great entertainment for the fans. That night Joel Casamayor, Michael Katsidis and Edwin Valero are going to fight but the best fight is going to be Barrios-Hernandez,” Barrios said. “We are going to fight every minute of every round.”
