Sell Out Crowd at “Heroes Among Us”

The action went down in Simi Valley at the “Heroes Among Us” live boxing show that was held Saturday night at the Simi Valley Town Center in Ventura County, California. Presented by Rey Rodis’ RED Boxing Promotions and Robert Ortiz Sr.’s Kid Gloves Boxing Gym, the sold out event featured entertaining bouts, a lively crowd and great energy in this outdoor venue in SoCal.

Ortiz Sr. was very happy to have a show after the pandemic and the boxing fans showed their appreciation while cheering on the six fights scheduled. It was standing room as the fisticuffs got underway. Ortiz Sr. has five generation of boxing in his family and his son Robert “Scrappy” Ortiz was the co-main on the card. Making his comeback, many thought Scrappy won the contest but the official judges scored his matchup versus Mario Aguirre as a majority draw.

The main event saw Mathias Radcliffe winning by a KO versus William Parra Smith and rounding out the card had Jerry Bradford defeating Derrick Clayton by unanimous decision, Kevin Perez besting Michael De La Cruz by unanimous decision, Eladio Guerrero vs. Henry Mendez ending in a split draw, and Jouse Vargas vs. Jamario Mulder had Vargas victorious in his pro debut.

Promoter Rey Rodis (with his trusty sidekick Louie) said it was nice to see everyone having a good time while watching the spirited fighters square off in the ring. And both Rodis Robert Ortiz Sr. thanked everyone for coming out and showing huge support for this October 2 fight night.

And as that classic song goes, “Saturday night’s alright for fighting”…everybody I spoke to said they were absolutely thrilled to be able to attend the fights again in person especially after the pandemic put the sport on pause for a while.

Check out some of my snapshots from the evening in which several former champions were on the scene including Brian Viloria, Paul Banke, Sindy Amador and more.

Team Ortiz will also be hosting an MMA/CAMO show later this month so look for the fireworks to continue!
