All Star Promotions Kicks off 2015

It was a knockout night at All Star Promotions’ “Battle of the Rising Stars” live boxing card that featured seven bouts of action at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, Calif.

Showcased on Friday evening were a pack of young bucks, talented warriors and rising stars. The spectators got their money’s worth with sizzling KOs from a pair of brand new pros and hometown heroes (Edgar Nava and Eddie de la Huerta) making their debut in separate battles. The SoCal fans also got an up-close look at Ghana Olympian Isaac Dogboe and boxing enthusiasts joined a growing fan base for Murat Gassiev (trained by Big Bear’s Abel Sanchez).

All Star Boxing & MMA’s Ed Holmes and Pete Hironaka have been promoting their cards for years and their Friday night series has become a longstanding tradition for boxing fans in the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. And last Friday’s show boasted a star-studded lineup of special guests at ringside including champs/boxers Gennady Golovkin, James Toney, Mauricio Herrera, Fabian Ocegueda, Jaime Ocegueda, Gerald Washington, Charles Martin, Julian Ramirez, Joel Diaz, Johnny Reyes, Santiago Guevara, Richard Rodriguez, Cassie Trost, Brian Marin, Larry Treybig, LA Kings’ Slava Voynov, WBC Judge of the Year Max De Luca, trainers Clemente Medina, Jerry Rosenberg, Rodrigo Mosquera, and more. Ring announcer Jim FitzGerald introduced the VIPs to the crowd as fans scurried over to get an autograph and photo with the puncher of their choice.

And the ticket holders began lining up early and were ready to enter the venue as soon as the doors officially opened. This was All Star’s kickoff show for 2015 and the loyal boxing fans couldn’t wait to take in the action. The crowd was electric as they cheered on their favorite gladiators in the ring. During the evening, the audience remained riveted by the punches traded in the ring. These Friday night fights are my favorite way to start the weekend!

Young gun Edgar Nava opened the event with his pro debut versus southpaw Ngoc Truong, also making his professional debut. The two pugilists fought hard to claim their first victory but Nava Golovkingot the better of it by scoring a knockdown in the first round and a TKO in the fourth stanza.

Also making his pro debut was Hawaiian Gardens’ Eddie de la Huerta. Nicknamed “The Monster,” de la Huerta came out roaring and won by KO in the second round. After the fights, he told me he was happy with his debut and couldn’t wait to get back in the ring for his second fight as a new pro. With youth and power on his side, keep an eye on this young slugger.

Backing Eddie de la Huerta, Edgar Nava and Alex Ochoa (also on the card) was a huge group from the Elite Pro Boxing Gym, where many of the fighters train and/or managed. Sporting bright green T-shirts and celebrating their team’s two pro debut victories, the Elite crew was proud to represent.

Also celebrating wins were Wild Card’s Israel Duffus (“Team Bumaye”) beating Jamel Reynolds with a first-round KO, Isaac Dogboe winning a unanimous decision over Alex Ochoa, Murat Gassiev overwhelming and outclassing Terrance Smith who was TKO’d, Jose Hernandez UD victory over Anthony Juarez and another set of pro debuts with Samuel Antwi closing the show with a KO over Daniel Fabela.

It literally was a knockout affair as five out of the seven matches ended in a TKO or KO. The night flew by and the crowd left the venue buzzing about this entertaining night of boxing. Everyone loves to see a knockout and many of the rounds were very competitive.

Check out my snapshots from the night!

All Star’s next show at the Quiet Cannon is scheduled for March 27, so don’t miss out on another action-packed night of fights.
