boxing-fights

This Saturday, April 27 at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sergio Martinez will defend his WBC belt against tough Brit, Martin Murray in what is most definitely not a “gimme” defense-especially for a 38-year-old champ, like Martinez, recovering from knee surgery. Martinez is small for the middleweight division and will be giving up some size to Murray.

Martinez doesn’t have the amateur background that most champions possess, but his professional record proves that he’s one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world.

Murray is best known for his 2011 draw with then-WBA champ, Felix Sturm. The rest of his resume is nowhere near as impressive as his performance against the defending German champ. He only stopped eleven of his opponents, and with the exception of one fight he’s spent his entire career fighting in the United Kingdom.

HBO will televise two fights the Sergio Martinez fight and the heavyweight matchup between Cristobal Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne from Ontario California. Arreola has thirty stoppages to his record and Stiverne has twenty. They’ve both stopped four of their last five opponents. It’s highly unlikely that this fight go the distance.

On Showtime, junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia will take on Zab Judah from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Judah and Garcia were supposed to have fought last February but Garcia suffered a rib and thumb injury that made it necessary for him to postpone the fight.

Immediately following Garcia vs Judah.

After nearly two years fighting away from England, the “King” is back. From the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, British superstar Amir “King” Khan returns to England to face former World Champion Julio “The Kidd” Diaz.
