Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com Monday that Marcos Maidana vs Devon Alexander is in the works. Schaefer said he would like to put the match on by the end of February at 147 pounds.

“Both guys want the fight,” Schaefer said. “It’s a good style matchup because you have Maidana, who comes forward and throws a lot of punches and has great power, and you have Devon, who is a very skilled boxer. Their styles mesh very well. They’ve both been champions and they know it’s a tough fight, but that is what they want.

“I’m in the business of making fights and this is a good one.”

What do you guys think?

  1. Well said jonny-boy, I agree with everything you said on Alexander. He has been givin alot of gifts. That Matthysse fight was a shamefull robbery and I think he got screwed in the Judah fight too. I think maidana could possibly get a knock out. Hope he does anyway, Alexander is over rated.

  2. I don’t consider it to be a “good” fight, Devon’s record should have two more losses instead of the gift decisions he’s received against Matthysse and Kotelnik. Hopefully if this is in St. Louis Maidana ends it because it will be a shame if they give Alexander another gift decision in his backyard. I’m more interested in how they will carry the weight. If Maidana wins and Ortiz wins against Berto it would only make sense to give us the rematch.
