Alfredo Angulo to Fight Vanes Martiosyan

The World Boxing Council has ordered the free negotiations period for the Vanes Martirosyan vs. Alfredo Angulo fight to determine the mandatory challenger in the WBC super welterweight division.

Martirosyan, a native of Armenia living in Glendale, California, (30-0-0 / 19 KOs) won the WBC super welterweight Silver Championship with a spectacular knockout against Saul Roman. Angulo, of Mexicali, Baja California (19-1-0 / 16 KOs), defeated Joachim Alcine in his last fight with an impressive first-round knockout.

If there is no agreement in the free negotiations period, a purse offer will be conducted at the WBC Executive Offices in Mexico City on August 19, 2011.

Other boxing news

Promoters, Gary Shaw and Ken Thompson have filed a breach of contract lawsuit against WBC/WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley for rejecting a big payday against Amir Khan and choosing to wait for his contract to expire. The Bradley camp believes he is a free agent.

@ EVA Me too!! “EL Perro” brings a lot of excitement into the ring and into the division as well. Since Angulo’s surprising loss to Cintron two years ago he practically steamrolled his next 4 opponents, looking very impressive in the process. The rematch vs Kermit is no longer a priority due to Cintron’s “leap” vs Williams and his poor showing vs Molina. Personally I believe that “El Perro” would kayo “El Frog” in a rematch. I hope the teams of both Martiosyan and Angulo work things out.. the SOONER the BETTER!!

Oh Hell yeah i want to see this fight! Make it happen!! is Angulo able to fight in the US yet? If so HOME DEPOT CENTER!!! Perfect Venue for boxing!

Folks, let’s be truthful. Some fighters like Vanes for example, are sometimes considered TOO GOOD for the OWN GOOD!! They are FORCED to fight a series of “title elimination fights” even when they are ranked NUMERO UNO or have been ranked #1 for over 6 months, sometimes longer. Why?? Well.. basically it’s because he’s considered TOO DANGEROUS/TOO RISKY for the (in this particular case the WBC/Suliaman’s) protected cash cow. Chavez Jr fits rather perfectly in the same category.

I’m NOT saying that Canelo isn’t a talented fighters, that he surely is and with outstanding potential as well. BUT… all this bullsh**t makes the WBC look like the WWE and… makes Suliaman look like Vince McMohn and…. makes Arum look like VIckie Guerrero!!! “Excuse me!! Excuse me!!” Man, give us a break, PLEASE!!

This is plain BULLSH*T!! Are we supposed to believe the “Low Down” Suliaman/WBC will FORCE Canelo to face the winner?? If you believe that then I have a bridge that I’d like to sell you. Or… is this another ‘stalling tactic’ to avoid having Canelo face a TOP ELITE CHALLENGER?? Or… to give Arum/Suliaman enough time to “cook & serve” Canelo vs Chavez Jr, which IS where the money’s at. Surely a Canelo vs Jr fight would generate MORE $$$ than Chavez/Canelo vs Martinez. It’s all about the $$$!!!

As for the proposed Angulo vs Vanes… GREAT MATCH-UP!! Looking forward to watching it!!
