Nonito Donaire stopped Wladimir Sidorenko at 1:48 of the fourth round of a scheduled 12-round bantamweight fight Saturday at the Honda Center. Donaire dropped Sidorenko with a left hook-straight right combination a minute and a half after the sound of the first bell. The Ukrainian was no match for the speed of the “Filipino Flash”.
Donaire scored another knockdown with a big left hand in round three and put the former champion down for the count in round four. Sidorenko’s face was covered in blood from a possible broken nose. Donaire’s (25-1, 17 knockouts) win earned him the right to challenge WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel at on Feb. 19.
“This was my best performance as a fighter,” said Donaire after the fight. “This is where I want to be (118 pounds). I never questioned my power. I’m motivated and this is what you get from the “Filipino Flash” when he’s motivated, confident and not afraid to get hit.”
It was arguably Donaire’s best performance since knocking then-undefeated Vic Darchinyan in 2007. Is Donaire speed and power enough to beat Montiel, a three-division titleholder who is also a quick-thinking, fast-punching and hard-hitting beast in the ring?
“I’m excited about that fight,” Donaire said. “He has a lot of power, but if you can’t hit your target, it’s useless. All I can say is it’s going to be a tremendous fight.”
Middleweight contender Pawel Wolak (28-1, 18 KOs), who was originally slated to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the main event before Chavez pulled out with the flu, survived a rocky start against late sub Jose Pinzon (19-2-1, 13 KOs) but came through with a seventh round TKO. Wolak was knocked down and badly hurt in round two, but survived Pinzon’s follow-up attack and turned the fight around in the following rounds, finally putting Pinzon out on his feet in round seven. Time was 2:24.
Undefeated lightweight contender Mikey Garcia (24-0, 20 KOs) scored his most impressive win to date, knocking out former world title challenger Olivier Lontchi (18-2-2, 8 KOs) in round five. Garcia dropped Lontchi with a right to the head then put him down for the count with his follow up barrage. Time was 1:30.

BEFORE THE DEC 4 FIGHT OF SIDERENKO AND DONAIRE, MONTIEL KEEPS CALLING OUT OTHER FIGHTERS–LIKE DARCHINYAN AND OTHERS BUT NEVER SAYS DONAIRE….AFTER DONAIRE AND HIS WIFE KEEP CALLING OUT HIS NAME ON INTERVIEWS ON VIDEO AND ARTICLES, MONTIEL FINALLY SAYS DONAIRE’S NAME….IMAGINE MONTIEL NEEDED A WOMAN TO FINALLY ACCEPT A CHALLENGE TO FINALLY SAY THE NAME DONAIRE…
LET US DO THIS——–HOPEFULLY MONTIEL DOESN’T GET HURT OR FALL OFF HIS BIKE AGAIN TO AVOID THE FINAL CHALLENGE……..
PHILIPPINES VS MEXICO–
montiel ducked donaire 2009 at 112 lbs for araneta coliseum in manila, instead raul martinez took his place and got knocked out…..darchinyan signed contract to fight donaire, 2 1/2 months before scheduled fight, donaire and wife flew to las vegas to sign contract and vic known also as vicky darchinyan called his manager to cancel the contract that he himself already signed. since then, vicky has shut up ….vicky has been dancing the chicken dance….afraid for another knock out…vicky doesn’t want to get crossed eyed again before he hits the canvas again and again…vicky did a great job of sparring with siderenko before fighting donaire on dec 4,, vicky taught siderenko how to get knocked out just like him………
Just cuz Pacquaio is Filipino and a great fighter, any Filipino that puts the gloves on now has that fierce left and that hand speed that Pacquaio has? all they need is a trainer like Roach? Really? I’m guessing your Filipino.
Slow down, guys! Don’t rush! Donaire is an excellent boxer. And he is a filipino by blood like Pacquiao. Filipino boxers, if trained by coaches like Roach, will beat any boxer including mexican warriors. A Donaire-Montiel match is gonna be a hell of fight; but I am sure Donaire will prevail by knockout in round 5.
Go Montiel!, it wont be easy, but this should be a action packed fight!
Backing Montiel on this one as well.
this flash BS has been fighting bums since his fight with Vic .What a joke.
Montiel certainly has the tools to beat Donaire. This has fight of the year written all over it unless Mayweather mans up and fights Pacquiao.
I am with you @Bori4life I want Montiel to win and I think its possible too.
i want fernando to whoop his a$$$$. i wanted vic to do it but as u can see nonito keeps running. lets go fernando el cochulito montielll
