Willie Limond’s bid to beat Erik Morales lasted only as long as the six round on Saturday night at the Monumental Plaza de Toros Mexico in Mexico City. Erik Morales seemed to shake off the ring rust after a few rounds and finally dropped Limond three times with body shots in round six to end it referee Jay Nady waved the fight off at 2:46 of the round, correctly ruling that Limond could not continue. Morales earned his 50th career win, improving to a record of 50-6, 35 KOs.

“I’m going to get better and better with each fight,” Morales promised the live crowd of 54,000 and the millions watching on Televisa in Mexico during his post-fight interview. “I’m really dedicating myself to boxing and I know I can make 135 pounds.”

On the undercard, Edgar Sosa stopped Ryan Bito in the 10th round of their flyweight bout. Sosa put Bito down twice in the 10th, with the second knockdown culminating in the end of the fight.
