Mora Cancels Fight With Candelo to Face Mosely!
Sergio the “Latin Snake” Mora (22-1-1, 6KO), has decided not to fight J.C. Candelo, in what was to be the main event at “Solo Boxeo Tecate” on July 23, 2010 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA.
Instead he will fight legend and future hall of famer “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-6, 39KO), in a junior
middleweight contest on Sept. 18, 2010, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, on PPV. The fight will be part of the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence Day celebration.
Both fighters are from L.A. and have history at the Staples Center. In 2005 Mora fought Peter Manfredo Jr. at 160lb in a rematch of their finale for the tv show the “Contender”. Mora won a split decision after winning a unanimous decision in their first fight. Two of Shane Mosley’s biggest accomplishments came at the Staples Center. A decade ago he defeated east L.A.’s Oscar De La Hoya taking his WBC welterweight crown by split decision at Staples. In 2009 “Sugar” Shane knocked out Antonio Margarito, who had never been kayoed, to win the WBA welterweight title, making Mosley the 147 kingpin for a second time almost a decade later. Mosley will be going up against another “East Los” product in Sergio Mora who is from east L.A.
This will be an interesting match-up, Mosley is coming off the worst performance of his career getting battered by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May and will be turning 39 a week before the fight. Mora is coming off a 7th round knock out victory over Calvin Green. Mora is still trying to get to the top of the food chain and be respected as one of the top dogs in his division. He has been on the grasp of being considered a world-class fighter for a few 
years now and hasn’t been able to break through. A win against Shane Mosley even at 39 would be Mora’s biggest victory putting him among the top, securing him a big payday fight in the future. For Mosley beating Mora, it would show that he still has something in the tank and could possibly make another run for a title.
Mora presses the action and keeps a very fast pace throwing lots of punches with authority, he will give Mosley everything he can handle. Will Mora be able to handle Mosley’s power when he starts getting into exchanges with Shane, as Mora’s heart always persuades him to do? Or will Mora overwhelm the older Mosley with aggression and punches in bunches, making it a long night for Mosley?
The card will also feature highly touted welterweight Saul Alvarez and junior welterweight Victor Ortiz fighting opponents to be announced.
