Last week at the Staple Center in Los Angeles, CA, Antonio Tarver made his debut as a Showtime commentator for one of the greatest rivalries in the history of boxing, Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez, in which Marquez won a third round TKO over “El Magnifico”.
I have to admit, Tarver did a great job as a commentator, better than HBO’s Lennox Lewis. After the fight, we met up at the JW Marriott hotel which is across the street from the Staple Center. We hanged out with Antonio De Marco among otheres. Once DeMarco left, we had a few drinks before running into Antonio Tarver. For those who have never met Tarver, he’s a cool guy. He looks intimidating at first, but once you get to talk to him, he’s actually a friendly guy.
I asked who he plans to fight next and with out hesitation he called out Danny Green. Tarver and his crew started to shout “We want Danny Green!”
Tarver hasn’t fought for almost a year and suffered back to back losses to Chad Dawson. I was shocked to hear Tarver calling out Green. Green has been on a winning streak for the past eight fights and not to mention his impressive one round TKO over Roy Jones Jr.
A win over Green will definitely put Tarver back in the game.
Danny Green if you’re reading this, Antonio Tarver is calling you out!
No!, id like to see Tarver do his come back deal with a bit more Effort! For me and im sure others will agree, if he works at it he can be really good. The big fight for me and i would pay per view to see this would be a tarver, in shape with some serious time and thinking on his work, Fight David Haye from London, I dont like this Haye at all and Tarvers got a bit of a Cocky tude as well, so for me, it would be a fight of bravado and think Antonio could do it.
I think Tarver shouild stick to broadcasting. 3x the money or not, he will make more in the long run with Showtime. Good luck to him, whatever he decides to do. Maybe he can rematch with Rocky Balboa or Rocky Balboa Jr.
Tarver has been offered almost 3 x what he earn’t against Dawson to fight Green.
So its all good to be calling out Danny but the offer has been put to him and hes not going to make that sort of cash anywhere else so if he wants the fight just bloody sign the contract!!
All has been said. 🙂
I agree, his awesome guy!
I agree with TijuanaBoxing on his assesment. I’ve said it many times that you can’t be a part time boxer.
I think he’s a great analyst for Showtime and yes, better than Lennox Lewis was for HBO.
How’s Tony doing? any idea when he’s getting back in the ring?
Tarver has always been very good with talking, I enjoy him as a commentator, he is very accurate articulate, and I agree he’s better then Lewis.
Danny Green? humm I don’t know, I think Tarver (at this point in his career) can have a much better career as a commentator than as a boxer.
