In recent years, when talk turned to boxing’s most promising prospects, the name Vicente Escobedo has usually been part of the conversation. On Friday, September 26th, Escobedo will return to the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California, to face local fan favorite Dominic Salcido on TeleFutura’s ‘Solo Boxeo’.

Golden Boy Promotions is pleased to announce perhaps one of the best TeleFutura cards of 2008, with the main event featuring 2004 US Olympian Vicente Escobedo against Dominic Salcido in a ten round lightweight bout, and rising junior featherweight star Nestor Rocha facing an opponent to be determined in a ten round co-main event.

Tickets, priced at $35, $75 and $125, can be purchased at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa Box Office at (951) 755-5391 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 4:00pm and the first fight at 4:30pm. The TeleFutura ‘Solo Boxeo’ broadcast begins at 8pm ET / PT (delayed on the west coast).

“These are the events boxing fans love and for good reason,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “This card has two of the best prospects in the game fighting each other and it’s make it or break it for them on September 26th. I can’t wait for the first bell to ring.”
“Morongo strives to provide its’ guests with the best entertainment experience in Southern California,” said Sean Sullivan, Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, general manager. “We provide fans a great opportunity to watch world class boxing in an intimate venue and at a great price.”
A member of the 2004 US Olympic team whose style and demeanor has been compared to a young Oscar de la Hoya, Woodland, California’s Vicente Escobedo (18-1, 11 KOs) has fast hands and feet and the ring savvy of a fighter who has been competing twice as long as he has. Winner of nine fights in a row since his lone loss via split decision to Daniel Jimenez in 2006, Escobedo is eager to take his next steps towards a world championship and a win over Salcido will be steps in the right direction.

Unbeaten in 16 fights, Rialto, California’s Dominic Salcido (16-0, 8 KOs) was on the fast track to boxing stardom before a hand injury stalled his progress in 2006. Since he healed up and returned to the ring full-time in 2007, the 24-year-old has been unstoppable, going 7-0 in 2007 and kicking off 2008 in June with an eight round win over Luis Arceo. This September, he looks to break into the world rankings by taking out California rival Escobedo.

The pride of Montebello, California, Nestor Rocha (19-1, 6 KOs) will make his third trip to Morongo where he last won a decision victory over Mexico’s experienced fighter Jose Angel Beranza on June 27th. The junior featherweight rising star is eager to get a shot at a world title by adding a win to his two-fight win streak over an opponent to be determined on September 26
