Former World Champion Winky Wright sustained a left hand injury during sparring that causes him to withdraw from his December 4th bout against Michi Munoz. Rumor has it that Winky Wright will return to the ring on HBO on March 14, 2009 against Paul Williams, who holds the WBO interim title at 154 pounds.

Was the so call injury all a publicity stunt to go after Paul Williams? I honestly think many fans including myself have forgotten about Winky Wright, he hasn’t fought since he lost to Bernard Hopkins in July 2007. Do you consider Winky Wright to be a fan favorite?

  1. This is man vs boy (think Hopkins vs Pavlik). Winky is going to school Paul…dont take my word for it…just wait & see. I am…I got a floor ticket & can’t wait!

  2. Paul is gonna beat the body when winky puts up his guard and on the outside paul is gonna destroy winky with his reach. I don’t see winkys jab being a factor in this fight because he only throws it when the other fighter isn’t active and paul is a highly active fighter and a couple of jabs per rounds won’t matter to the 100 punches williams throws per round. And wrights sytle is tailored for right hand fighters. He didn’t look too good against sorry sam soloman the last time he fought a southpaw.

  3. Winky Wright is the best pound for pound boxer in the world…Paul Williams will get knocked out on everyting…No fighter is better technically…The Pugilist Winky is one of the pioneers in this sport..show some respect

  4. I can’t believe they keep on doing this in boxing, first Holyfield get’s a shot @ the title that e didn’t earn, he last a pretty much one sided title fight a few months ago, then he gets another free shot @ a title, now Winky who hasn’t fought in more than a year gets a shot @ a title with out even fighting or winning one fight in a long time?

This is a problem in boxing and this is why the sport is not that credible anymore, this is like Hulk Hogan coming out of retirement and winning a belt in one fight, it’s all a circus now, really sad…
